OPEN CALLS FOR SUBMISSIONS

CALLING ALL GAMER/WRITERS!  Dreaming Big Publications is teaming up with Orcs Unlimited to produce a short story collection tentatively titled WE HUNT BUGS based on the world and characters from Orcs Unlimited’s upcoming RPG, WE HUNT BUGS.

Stories should be approximately 2k-3k in length and preferably written in first person POV using the setting and characters from the soon-to-be released RPG titled We Hunt Bugs from Orcs Unlimited. The idea is for the stories to be able to stand alone as entertaining reads, but to also be suitable for players to use for game scenarios and campaigns.  The pay will be negotiated upon acceptance of the final draft, but the monetary payment will be approximately $10-$15 per story (depending on the number of stories accepted and the lengths) and will include a free contributor’s copy. Rights to the stories will belong to Pat McNary of Orcs Unlimited.

Email Kristi at dreamingbigproductions@outlook.com, pdffrogger@att.net, or use Dreaming Big’s website contact form to ask for the detailed STORY BIBLE if you are interested in writing a story for this collection. After you have had a chance to look at the Story Bible, please query first with your story idea to receive approval before you start writing it. This is important! If you don't, we won't know you're writing anything and your story is less likely to be accepted when you turn it in. Upon approval, we do need a quick turnaround (approximately 30 days) if we are to coincide publication with the game.

The Story: We Hunt Bugs takes place far into the future, when space travel is a normal, everyday occurrence and humanity has spread far across the known universe.

Inhabiting the galaxy are a varied race of violent aliens that resemble earthly insects. They infest ships during FTL (Faster Than Light) travel (which is when space ships cross vast distances in space in a short amount of time, moving faster than the speed of light), though the Bugs are unable to survive entry into a planet’s atmosphere, so they exist only in space. A huge part of the game is fighting these bugs, though it—and your story—does not have to be limited to only a fight between Bugs and humans.

We Fell Through the Cracks

This is a nonfiction, true story collection. If you have a story to tell of how a system has failed you, we want it!  Examples include injustices in the legal system, welfare system, religious institutions, medical care, mental health care, and many others.  This is your chance to have your voice heard; to tell your story. Change names and write it anonymously if you have to, but we want to expose the holes in the system and raise awareness of these issues!  We will also accept stories written about others. If you are a professional who deals with the abused, the poor, the mentally ill, or any other minorities, we want to hear from you, too. This is the place for the stories of the times the system and society as a whole has failed to help or do justice. This is the place for the stories from the people who are living the daily struggle of oppression.  We want your stories of coming out to your family and to society.  We want your stories of struggles with addiction.  We want to hear how you fought for years to keep custody of  your children, or about the daily struggle with poverty.

AMERICAN MURDERS: A LOOK AT A FEW OF AMERICA'S SERIAL KILLERS AND SPREE MURDERERS
Looking for stories about American serial killers or spree murderers. Please query first with your story idea to be sure the one you are writing about is not one that we already have a story on.   This is a nonfiction collection. Word count, approximately 10,000 words.

THROUGH OUR EYES
This collection, tentatively titled "Through Our Eyes" will focus on stories about animals from their perspective.  No anthropomorphic animals, please.  No nonfiction.  Send me your stray cats, stray dogs, wild animals who are being hunted (think Bambi or Lady and the Tramp). Proceeds from sales will benefit a local animal shelter.
Stories should be between 5,000 and 10,000 words long.

Historical/Cultural Fiction Collection
This as yet untitled story collection will feature fictional short stories with historically and culturally accurate themes.  From a little known African tribe, to a family living in Hiroshima during WW2, to an Alaskan Eskimo, use your imagination and your cultural knowledge to create amazing fiction!  Query first before submitting.   Short stories should be 7500 to 10,000 words.

NOW YOU CAN READ THE BORING PARTS HERE THAT ANSWER ALL OR MOST OF THE QUESTIONS YOU MIGHT HAVE

RESUBMISSIONS:  Accepted for website blog submissions. Please tell me where and when your work was first published so proper credit can be given.  We prefer previously unpublished material for inclusion in anthologies, collections, or for full length books.

RIGHTS:  You retain all rights to your work published on the blog.  Your work will be archived on the website.  All I ask is for proper credit and a link given when resubmitting your work elsewhere for publication, and this includes your own personal website or blog.

For book anthology submissions, I ask for one year exclusive publishing rights. After that, the story will stay in publication by Dreaming Big indefinitely but at that time you are also free to take the work and submit elsewhere, unless the story is for a licensed work. Contract will be signed.

For any single author or co-authorship full length books, contract will be negotiated on an individual basis, but as the author, you retain rights to your work.

Compensation:
For website blog publication, no monetary compensation. This website receives approximately 500 visitors a day. Your blog post gets shared on my Facebook and Twitter, with a reach of approximately 4,000 followers. Readers sign up for the RSS feed and are able to read new posts daily. (I highly recommend that if we are publishing a book of yours, especially nonfiction, that you submit articles on a regular basis - excerpts from your book or topics related to your book - because putting these on the blog is great advertising. Seek out other bloggers who want guest posts as well and see if they will post your article.)

Any submissions accepted for book collection/anthology publication will require a signed contract which will be negotiated with the author at time of acceptance of the poem or story. In most cases, payment will be token only, but will be negotiated on an individual basis.

Full length manuscripts receive a royalty agreement. No cash advance is paid.
