ABOUT THE BOOK

The third installation in A Series of Choices, Friend or Foe continues the story of Lana, Val, Travis and Leo. Lana is left rudderless after being released from the mental hospital, and, still angry with Val, turns to an alluring stranger for comfort. He gives her what seems like a life of luxury, but when he coerces her into joining a dangerous business game, she must get out before it’s too late. Meanwhile, Travis finds himself constantly arguing with a pregnant Val, and his loyalties start to shift to his gorgeous co-worker Lauren.

MY REVIEW

2.5 out of 5 stars
With Friend or Foe this series settled into a comfortable atmosphere between romance and suspense. I enjoyed the building tension in the plotline to apprehend Big P and the Los Diablos gang, and I was pleased to see the conflict move more smoothly than the last two books. However, a lack of character development still marred Friend or Foe. Lana’s time in the mental hospital provided the potential for an interesting plotline and significant character growth, and yet it’s disappointingly glossed over and barely even mentioned. Likewise, Travis is painted to be the most upstanding, compassionate character in the book, and yet his fights with Val and actions with Lauren diminish him into someone selfish and impulsive. Overall the action is fun to read, but the characterization falls a bit short.
