Blair Hill
As you raise your Confederate flag,
you insist that racism is dead;
you shot it with your handgun
while its hands were raised in the air.
You fired mercilessly as it screamed,
“Don’t Shoot!”
“I can’t breathe!”
“#blacklivesmatter”
You tell the black community
to “get over slavery,”
as if you can erase the suffering
of generations with words.
There are a few words that might help:
“I’m sorry.”
“Let’s make change.”
“Your life matters.”
