Q & A with author Sharryn Dotson

Tell us about your latest book.
Love or Battle is the fourth (and last!) book in A Series of Choices. The crew is happily helping plan Val and Travis’ wedding! Travis has left the police department, but he begins another investigation, this time into his dad’s mysterious prison death. At the same time, something from Travis’ past threatens his happily-ever-after with Val, and her best friend, Lana, is determined to save it. However, Lana’s own personal and business relationship with Leo is imploding over sins of the past. Everyone must learn how to forgive before they all lose in love.

What's the best thing about being a writer?
Taking on the voice and personality of whoever you want. Writing is almost like being an actor or actress. One minute, you’re writing as a stripper with a drug problem, the next you’re a priest who is saving an orphan.

What’s the hardest thing about being a writer?
            Writer’s block, hands down.

Where can people find out more about you and your writing?
I invite everyone to check out my website at http://sharryndotson.wix.com/authorsharryndotson, or go to my Amazon author page at http://www.amazon.com/Sharryn-Dotson/e/B01FGKFWOM/ref=sr_tc_2_0?qid=1465352639&sr=1-2-ent.

Where can a reader purchase your book?
You can pre-order “Love or Battle” at https://www.amazon.com/Love-Battle-Choices-Book-4-ebook/dp/B01FFXBK3C?ie=UTF8&qid=1465352644&ref_=la_B01FGKFWOM_1_2&s=books&sr=1-2, but don’t forget to read the others if you want to catch up on all the drama. The book is also available on Smashwords, CreateSpace (if you prefer print) and Barnes & Noble.

Do you have another work in progress? Tell us about it.
I’m working on an outline VERY loosely based on two people I know in real life who have formed a very special, yet very unusual, bond. One is a young black man from the ‘hood and the other is an older man who owned a successful business and is now suffering from the early stages of Alzheimer’s. I’m really excited about writing a longer-form book that doesn’t have any sex in it!

Have you written other books? Where can readers purchase them?
Yes I have! I have written three other books in the series: Closure or Ammo, Money or Mayhem and Friend or Foe. All three follow the lives and drama of Travis, Lana, Val and Leo, but are told from different points of view. You can also buy them on Amazon, Createspace, Smashwords and Barnes & Noble!

What are your thoughts on self-publishing verses traditional publishing?
All of my books are self-published, so I’m obviously partial to self publishing. However, I know many who think going through a traditional publisher is like selling your soul. I think there are good and bad points to both. With a traditional publisher, you have built-in marketers, whereas with self-publishing, you’re doing all the work of getting your name and your book out there.

What are you currently reading?
I’m your typical reader who has started at least 5 books and finished maybe one. Shonda Rhimes’ “Year of Yes” is one that I haven’t finished, but it’s REALLY good so I will finish it. James Hayman’s “The Girl in the Glass” is one I did finish, as is “Deliver Her” by Patricia Perry Donovan. Both really good mystery-type books.

When you’re not writing, how do you spend your time?
I try to spend as much time as possible bothering my two kids and meditating. I also volunteer at church, do freelance editing for friends and will be starting grad school in the fall to get a certificate in non-profit management. Lots happening around these parts!
