'At a Bank of Elevators' by Donal Mahoney

At a Bank of Elevators

Reunions can happen
and leave you speechless.
I’m standing at a bank

of elevators in a hospital
going to visit my wife
when a wheelchair rolls up

carrying my internist
from years ago.
An excellent doctor

who retired to teach,
according to rumors.
Now he’s pushed by a woman

I assume is his wife.
She looks sad
and he looks worse.

He asks how I’m doing
and I say not bad.
I ask how he’s doing

and he says he’s dying.
And adds that he hopes
I never have to.

He says he never realized
despite his patients
dying could be so hard.

Reunion is a gathering of relatives, friends, or associates at regular intervals or after separation. Having a reunion is really fun. Reunions are good occasion where you get to connect with each other again. Here, you will notice some changes. Reunions also bring back memories from the past.

I don't get this type of poetry, really. I mean, there's no rhythm, there's no rhyme, what makes it a verse? Just the style of dividing sentences? And as fer me, it had nothing, you know, metaphoric or smthng like that. Why wouldn't you just write your sad meeting as a plain text? I think it could fit even one 140 symbol tweet.
