MY REVIEW: An unequivocal 5 stars all the way. From the haunting cover image to the very last page, this book needed to be written. In fact, the author basically wrote the book I’ve been wanting to write for a long time. If anyone has questions about domestic abuse, such as why people stay, you need to read this. If you are now or have in the past gone through something like this, I think you will find healing in these pages. For those who still don’t have the voice to speak up, Ruth does it for you by pointing out the fallacies commonly used by men who abuse. The bible verses they spout off when justifying their actions, and the way their wives often are complicit in hiding the secret and perpetuating the abuse (trying to obey what everyone says is the biblical role of the wife) is addressed. I cannot recommend this book more. I think it fills a huge void in literature, and boldly points out the ways that husbands, wives, pastors, and even counselors who should know better, perpetuate the cycle of abuse with their teachings.
